Susan Parlane specializes in serving clients in the
entertainment industry, with an emphasis on negotiating and
drafting agreements for writers, directors, producers and
performers in connection with the development and production
of both live action and animated feature film and television
projects. Her expertise includes negotiating production
services agreements and advising clients on clearance
issues, intellectual property rights, guild compliance, and
day-to-day production issues. In addition, Susan has
extensive knowledge with regard to marketing and promotional
campaigns related to theatrical and television projects.
Susan’s prior experience includes serving as Vice President,
Business and Legal Affairs for Nickelodeon, where she was
responsible for negotiating and drafting live action and
animated television development and production agreements,
including writer, producer, director, performer, host and
overall agreements, live action and voiceover test option
agreements, rights agreements, production services
agreements, and advising clients on production-related
matters for a variety of television programs, including
iCarly, Kung Fu Panda, Drake and Josh Merry Christmas
Special, and Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Prior to
joining Nickelodeon, Susan served as Director of Legal
Affairs for Warner Bros. Television, overseeing the daily
production legal matters for a variety of television
programs, including The O.C., The Closer, Veronica Mars, and
All of Us. Before Warner Bros., Susan worked as legal
counsel for DreamWorks Animation, handling development
projects and negotiating |

writer, director, producer and performer agreements for
various animated feature films, including Shrek 2, Shark
Tale, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
Prior to joining Doyle & Miller, Susan was an entertainment
legal consultant, advising clients such as Comcast Digital (Fandango.com,
DailyCandy.com) and Summit Entertainment on the promotion
and protection of their entertainment properties. In
connection with several of Summit’s high profile properties,
including the Twilight franchise and Hurt Locker, Susan
negotiated integrated marketing and co-promotional
agreements, reviewed creative materials, and negotiated and
drafted agreements and official rules for online, in-store
and in-theater sweepstakes, contests and other promotions,
and negotiated website and mobile application development
agreements. Susan’s work for Comcast Digital included
negotiating, drafting and reviewing marketing and
promotional agreements as well as researching and ceasing
the infringement of Comcast’s intellectual property rights
on the internet.
Susan is a graduate of the University of California, Davis
School of Law, where she graduated in the top twenty percent
of her class and served as an editor of the UC Davis Law
Review. She received her undergraduate bachelor of arts
degree with Honors from the University of California, Los
Angeles, with a major in political science and a minor in
business administration. She is a member of the California
bar. |
